Joni and Susan Agro Shop- More than sunflowers

We went there for the sunflowers. And it did not disappoint. The sunflowers were enthralling. You feel happy just walking among the tall stalks of yellow flowers. They beckon you like friends with a happy disposition with petals as bright a sunlight. But after walking among these happy flowers, we got a little tired and decided to grab some snacks before heading back to Batangas where we will be spending the night. (Note this is a super late post weeks before the quarantine).

We went to their Greenhouse restaurant which was al fresco. I ordered their mushroom burger and a salad. The texture of the burger was a little different and seemed a little soggy. But it was cooked like the usual burger with almost the same flavor. What I remembered about this snack were the mushroom chips on the side that were crunchy like a chicharron. It was a different take on the chicharron, the guilt-free one but instead of vinegar, it had an aioli like sauce you can dip it in. I liked it.

I also ordered their salad and what struck me about it was its colorful butterfly pea flower on top of it. It looked so pretty. Unfortunately, I was not able to taste the flower. But I sort of had a taste of it from their colorful butterfly peank (pea and pink) lemonade. Though, it tasted a little sour, it looked so creative.  It was a combination of purple on top and pink liquid at the bottom. But I think I liked their Honey calamansi juice better with the purple topped liquid too. It had a mild sweetness to it and was refreshing.

Another surprise for me here was the mushroom ice cream. I tried the cheese flavor and it was good.  I did not expect much flavor from it at first. Honestly, I did not expect anything, I just bought it out of curiosity. But the flavor of the cheese came through and you can’t detect that it was not dairy.  I also tasted the chocolate flavor and like the cheese flavor, it had a good flavor too.

Sometimes, you have to travel and experience new sights and flavors. It brings you out of your comfort zone and gives you fresh insights about other places. I’m glad that my family was game on adventures like this though it was just for research for an upcoming project. I like discovering new things with them especially taking pictures around sunflowers, marveling at our colorful drinks and trying out cheese and chocolate flavored mushroom ice cream. Now, I can’t wait for our next adventure. ?
