The unimaginable has happened to us. A supertyphoon has hit the country, destroying homes, lives, demolishing entire neighborhoods.
Images from Supertyphoon Yolanda in local and foreign news can make even the most indifferent soul melancholy as scenes of destruction are played out over and over again.
But we, those watching their pleas for help cannot watch by and do nothing. They are our fellow Filipinos, it is imperative, almost urgent that we take action to ease their suffering. We can donate food, medicine and clothing to the large organizations capable of mounting huge donation drives to these devastated areas.
We can also offer prayers for our brothers and sister there, for the Lord to give them strength in these trying times and pray for their local leaders/officials to summon their inner fortitude to lead and give hope to their people.
And in line with offering more help to Tacloban, Ormoc and other places devastated by Yolanda, organizations and businesses like Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf are participating in helping the victims in the Visayan region.
I have learned through e-mail that as part of their 50th Anniversary, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf are offering 100% of their machine sales this weekend, November 15 to 17, 2013 to those affected by the supertyphoon. This will be done in close coordination with Red Cross Philippines, Habitat for Humanity and Operation Blessing.
